As with all my work I used Re-Cycled timber, the main body the Coop is made from softwood boards lightly planed. The doors, nicely turned handle and trim made from selected hardwood.
Making the chickens was the fun part. I carefully carved each one to bring out there own individual characters. Finally they were painted with water-based acrylic colours.
The doors where carefully cut from the same section of wood and the grains reversed on every other one, just to add a bit of interest.
Generally I do not use screws and if I do they are disguised with wooden pips or similar, however I used small brass screws for the handles, I felt they were appropriate.
I purposely made the doors to open so the mechanisms can be viewed. There are no ugly hinges on the doors as they have hidden pins top and bottom to give a much neater appearance.
I do like to add a little bit of detail the ladybird and little bee again add a little more interest to the piece.
